Frequently Asked Questions

*How much does therapy cost?

The first session is $150 for a 2-hour assessment. Each following session is $110 for a 1-hour session.

*If I cannot afford your standard rates, do you offer a sliding fee scale?

Yes. I offer a reduced fee to those who qualify. Qualifications are based on income and ability to pay. The rates range from $60-90 for a one-hour individual session and the sliding scale rate is $100 for the initial 2-hour assessment.

*Are my sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything we talk about in session is confidential unless you disclose child abuse, dependent adult abuse, elder abuse, active suicidal thoughts/plans or homicidal thoughts/plans. If you disclose any of those mentioned issues, I am a mandated reporter in the State of California, which means that I must report such issues in order to protect you, the victim of abuse, or an intended victim from harm. I DO NOT have to report suicidal thoughts unless you have plans and means to carry it out. I DO NOT have to report homicidal thoughts unless you have plans and means to carry it out, as well.

*What if I am involved in a court case? Will you still be able to maintain confidentiality of the things we talk about in session?

If I am subpoenaed by a judge with a court order, then I must comply with the judge's request. In most cases, I can submit a summary of our sessions and your treatment, if information is requested. It is my duty as your therapist to protect your privacy and uphold your right to confidentiality.

*How long does therapy take? How many sessions until I should expect to feel better and see results?

Therapy is different for each person. The length of time depends on several factors: 1) How frequently you attend sessions; 2) How much effort you put into your sessions and homework assigned by your therapist; 3) How complicated a problem or problems you are attempting to resolve; 4) And how much you utilize the suggestions made by your therapist. There are many other factors that can affect how quickly you can make progress in your therapy. If you have specific concerns, please ask.

*What type of therapy do you do?

Primarily, I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. I also utilize Art Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT/Mindfulness), and Narrative Therapy interventions.
